Ever-closer cooperation between the Brussels-Capital Region and Québec
Relations between the Brussels-Capital Region (BCR) and the Province of Québec have been fruitful for over twenty years. In January 2023, the two entities had yet another opportunity to emphasise the importance of this exemplary cooperation.
Martine Biron, Québec’s Minister of International Relations and La Francophonie and Minister responsible for the Status of Women, visited Brussels on 20 January 2023 in the framework of one of her first foreign missions. There she met with Rudi Vervoort, the Minister-President of the BRC. They were joined by Geneviève Brisson, Delegate General of Québec in Brussels.
The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to reminisce on past achievements and take of future undertakings in various fields, such as the environment, security, urban planning, the economy, R&D, and equal opportunities, among others.
Signing of a fourth agreement on the remediation of contaminated soil
The two ministers signed the fourth version of an agreement on the remediation of contaminated soil. The agreement between Brussels Environment and counterparts in Québec has already given rise to mutually beneficial results. Three’s a charm, but in this instance, the fourth agreement paves the way for more and new exchanges in the next two years.
Reception by the Québec Government Office in Brussels
The closing event of the exchange programme was a reception by the Québec Government Office in Brussels. Besides celebrating the 50th anniversary of Québec’s presence in Brussels, the reception also fêted the many upcoming opportunities for cooperation in 2023.
