The Brussels-Capital Region welcomed the Land of Berlin

On 5 December 2022, the Brussels-Capital Region (BCR) welcomed a delegation from Berlin, led by Berlin’s Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey, on the occasion the 30th anniversary of the cooperation agreement between the BCR and the Land of Berlin.

The visit of the Berlin delegation to Brussels came soon after the successful Brussels mission to the German capital. On this ‘return’ mission, Franziska Giffey, the Governing Mayor, was flanked by Ana-Maria Trăsnea, the Permanent Secretary for Active Citizenship, Democracy Support, and International Relations in the Berlin Senate Chancellery.


An introduction to sustainable projects at Greenbizz

The Berlin representatives kicked off their visit at Greenbizz.brussels, an incubator that provides support to start-ups in the sustainable economy. There they visited Octave, a cleantech company that use second-life batteries from electric vehicles for its energy storage system, among others.


Bilateral meeting with Rudi Vervoort, Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region

Franziska Giffey, Governing Mayor of Berlin, then met with Rudi Vervoort, Minister-President of the Brussels-Capital Region. During their bilateral meeting, they discussed the joint achievements of the two entities over the past thirty years and the many prospects for cooperation in the future.


30 years of cooperation, an occasion to celebrate!

The evening programme was more festive with a very successful reception, hosted by the Land of Berlin, to mark the pearl anniversary of this bilateral agreement.

Elke Van den Brandt, Minister of the Government of the Brussels-Capital Region responsible for mobility, and Franziska Giffey, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, reflected on some of the great milestones in the friendship between the two entities, after which the guests enjoyed some music.
