Conference on EU policy in terms of Community Land Trusts

Save the date! On 4 December 2020, the partners of the interregional European project Sustainable Housing for Inclusive and Cohesive Cities (SHICC) are organising a virtual conference on the European Union’s (EU) policy in terms of Community Land Trusts (CLT).

The conference, which is titled “Community Land Trusts: Building Common Ground across Europe”, is an opportunity to take stock of the emergence of a European CLT movement and its relevance to the EU policy agenda.

CLTs are used as a vehicle for property ownership for households with modest resources thanks to an original model, separating the land from the buildings. The owner owns the home but is a tenant of the land that is collectively owned by the CLT’s board.

The purpose of this conference is to seek stronger engagement from EU stakeholders. They will be invited to collaborate and coordinate their efforts to support the rise of the CLT movement in Europe.

Pascal Smet, Brussels state secretary for Urbanism and Heritage, European and International Relations, Foreign Trade and Fire Fighting and Emergency Medical Assistance, will give the keynote and closing speeches. He will also present the Brussels CLT initiatives.
