Stockholm on a fact-finding missionin the Brussels-Capital Region

On 22 May 2015 Brussels International welcomed a delegation of municipal directors from Stockholm and the surrounding region. The discussions centred on urban development and the functioning of the Brussels-Capital Region.   The delegation of municipal directors, from the Stockholm County Association of Local Authorities (KSL, a political organisation that consists of 26 municipalities of the region of Stockholm), attended a two-part presentation. During the first part, Manoëlle Wasseige, the representative of the Brussels-Capital Region to the European Union, explained the main characteristics of the Belgian federal state. She discussed the institutional landscape as well as the competences, the demographics and the geography of the Brussels-Capital Region. She also touched upon the different aspects of Brussels International and paid special attention to the role of the Representation of the Brussels-Capital Region to the European Union. The second part of the presentation was given by Alfredo Corbalan, head of the urban marketing project Urban Development Agency. He focused on the challenges and obstacles for urban development in the Brussels-Capital Region as well as the questions arising from the Brussels-Capital Region’s “metropolisation”.
