The Brussels-Capital Region selects 10 projects for sustainable and inclusive development in the countries of the South
The Brussels-Capital Region wants to help fight climate change and poverty in the world. In the framework of a joint call for projects, Brussels International, Environment Brussels and HUB Brussels - Invest & Export have selected 10 new projects that will implement initiatives in developing countries.
The Brussels-Capital Region is joining the efforts made by Belgium and the international community to contribute to sustainable and inclusive development in the world. Brussels International, Environment Brussels and HUB Brussels – Invest & Export are strongly aware of the increasingly important role of regions in the face of the complex challenges posed by sustainable development. Hence, they decided to join forces and organise a joint call for projects, on ‘climate change’ and ‘sustainable and inclusive economic development’. They awarded 800,000 euros to civil society organisations that are accredited by the Directorate-general Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid of the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs, and to fourth pillar associations (private international solidarity initiatives) and associations that promote economic development.
Towards more sustainable and inclusive development
The Brussels-Capital Region selected the following seven projects that focus on sustainable and inclusive development:
- “Professionalisation of domestic help in the Region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra in Morocco” – Echos Communication
- “Support for the vocational training of children and young adults living on the streets of Kinshasa» – Médecins du Monde Belgique (Doctors of the World Belgium)
- “Employment and disability: towards the sustainable inclusion of people with disabilities in paid employment in the Region of Rabat-Salé-Kénitra in Morocco” – Humanity and Inclusion
- “NANDILAND: a women-led business incubator in Kinshasa” – CIProC
- “Mobile Urban Entrepreneur in Paramaribo” – Vormingplus Citizenne
- “Social-professional and economic inclusion of people with disabilities at the KIKESA vocational centre for people with disabilities in Kinshasa (DRC), by providing them with the tools for social and professional integration so they can set up a business and become self-employed” – Solimambe
- “TUVAKANA in Kinshasa” – Laïcité et Humanisme en Afrique centrale
Fighting climate change
Three projects, that focus on climate change, were also selected:
- “Protection and preservation of biodiversity against the detrimental effects of climate change in the Communal Sections of Bas and Haut Coq Chante » (Jacmel, Haiti) – Geomoun
- “Development of solar energy generation and vegetables that can withstand climate change” (DRC) – Solsoc
- “Capacity strengthening, in particular in terms of climate change adaptation and mitigation, of 4,000 growers in the municipalities of Koudougou and Réo” (Burkina Faso) – Autre Terre
