Call for projects global citizenship and solidarity 2019

The Brussels-Capital Region wishes to contribute to the eradication of poverty in the world and joins the efforts of Belgium and the international community to achieve sustainable development and a more equitable world. These efforts are now part of the new United Nations framework of 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

In order to meet these objectives and aware of the growing importance of regional and local authorities in the field of development cooperation, the Brussels-Capital Region has been consolidating a genuine policy in this area since the beginning of this legislature.

Thus, after having increased the scale of the cooperation projects it supports in developing countries, it is now appropriate to ensure a regional basis for the second pillar of international solidarity, namely awareness of global and solidarity-based citizenship. This objective was also explicitly included in the Ordinance establishing a framework for Brussels development cooperation promulgated on 27 July 2017.

To this end, Brussels International is launching a call for projects on global and solidarity citizenship on 15 March.

This call for projects has two objectives:

to make the North-South challenges and interdependencies understandable to young people in Brussels with a view to improving the living conditions of populations in developing countries in particular, and in the world in general;
highlight the actions already carried out or in the process of being carried out by Brussels actors in favour of developing countries, in order to present the full diversity of Brussels solidarity in the world.

In concrete terms, projects must raise awareness among the target audience of “North-South” realities and issues related to one or more Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, subsidised projects must primarily target young people (between 12 and 25 years old) in Brussels, even if they may reach other complementary / additional audiences.

The call for projects is open to civil society organisations (e. g. organisations from migration, non-profit organisations, foundations, cultural centres, etc.) with Belgian legal personality.

A budget of 200,000 euros is planned for this call for projects.

Minimum grant amount per selected project: 5,000 euros. Maximum amount of the grant per selected project: 25,000 euros.

The project can be financed at 100% of the actual total budget.

This call for projects is open until 06 May 2019.
