“New Ways of Living”

The exhibition “New Ways of Living” will run from 16 May to 29 September 2024 at the Halles Saint-Géry. It is organised by urban.brussels as part of the Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU.

European cities are undergoing a major transition to respond to socio-cultural, economic, and climatic challenges, which have multiplied in recent years because of international crises. This urgency has led to a rapid diversification in how people live and work. The relationship between shared space and privacy has shifted, as well as between work and community.

To address this transition, we need to create resilient, ecological, and healthy habitats, that are good for all, based on placemaking with an appropriate density to reduce urban sprawl and, with a proper use of available open space. Cities are becoming laboratories for sustainable solutions for new ways of living, working and leisure that go beyond market-based models.

Through the exhibition “New Ways of Living”, you will discover examples of creative solutions for both existing and new built environments.

This exhibition is also an extension of the Brussels Declaration of European mayors, “A European urban policy fit for the future”, which has already been signed by 133 mayors and aims to highlight the crucial role of cities as partners of and drivers of European objectives. In the declaration, the mayors advocate for a strong urban dimension, and affordable, sustainable, and high-quality housing, in the next European policy programming. Are you a public authority or an association? Sign the declaration!
